Stress Management

This special program has been in operation since 1983, with a primary goal of consultation and education to improve individual's abilities to cope with acute and chronic stressors in everyday life. When this information is utilized, the possibility of developing a variety of physical and emotional difficulties can be significantly lessened. Agencies, private business, and the armed forces are all active in stress management programs, recognizing that prevention of difficulties is more cost effective and efficient than treatment following the development of a disorder. Research indicates that stress management programs reduce absenteeism due to illness and/or substance abuse, and aids in learning.

Our society and individual lifestyles have become more and more stressful during the past years, and stress management training is in high demand, accounting for the majority of requests the Center received for presentations and workshops. Techniques of relaxation, communication, and exercise that comprise stress management are often used in treatment sessions within the Center.

The Center conducted several stress management workshops this year with a variety of different participants including churches, civic organizations, and other agencies.
